Division 15 Announcements

Announcements are disseminated most frequently via the Division 15 listserv. Announcements regarding job openings, post-doctoral positions, and funding opportunities may be directed to Division 15 Newsletter Editor, Neil Schwartz (California State University, Chico). Please email him at: neil8860@gmail.com.
Dear Members of Division 15:
As members of Division 15 and editors of Theory Into Practice (TIP) we encourage our fellow members to consider developing a proposal for an issue of TIP. Issues usually have 8-10 articles focusing on a particular educational topic such as assessment, adolescent mental health, or classroom management (Click here for a list of recent issues).

TIP is a refereed journal. It was published by Lawrence Erlbaum, but now all of LEA journals are published in cooperation with Taylor & Francis, Inc. You can see the journal website by clicking here.

Each issue is organized around a single theme and features multiple perspectives and scholarly, yet accessible, discussions of current and future concerns of interest to today’s educators. The goal is to stage a forum for the creation of an educational literature that represents the highest quality and excellence in a field of inquiry. The articles in TIP theme issues are conceptual in nature, focusing on ideas rather than on specific research. Although authors are encouraged to include research and case studies to support ideas, articles should not focus on a single research study or case example.

If you attended Past President Eric Anderman’s talk at APA this year in Toronto, you know that he challenged all of us to make our research findings available and useful to educators and policy makers. Creating an issue of TIP is one way to do just that.

We are especially looking for issues on the following themes, but would consider others as well:
  • Gifted Education
  • What we can learn from international assessments
  • STEM Education
  • Second Language Learning/ World Languages/Immersion Schools Physical Education, Physical Activity, and Child Health.
  • Adolescents and Risky Behaviors
  • Engaging Students
  • Alternative Approaches to Teacher Education
  • Youth Navigating Social Spaces

Teachers and administrators certainly could benefit from good research on these topics.

We now are filling the 2012 and 2013 volumes, so there is time before any due dates, but we would like to get going soon to develop proposals. If you are interested in proposing an issue of TIP, write us a letter describing your ideas and the TIP editorial staff will review it.

Please consider this opportunity. TIP reaches many teachers, administrators, and teacher educators, here and abroad. You can see our editorial boards by clicking here.

Feel free to call if you have any questions, or e-mail us at tip@osu.edu.

Sincerely,
Anita Woolfolk Hoy
